Margaret M. Quinn ScD, CIH

Dr. Margaret M. Quinn, ScD, CIH is a Professor in the Department of Work Environment and Director of the Sustainable Hospitals Program in the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her research and teaching focus on preventing harmful exposures and creating healthy environments at work, home, and in communities. She is the principal investigator on grants funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

 

Dr. Quinn?s research interests include: 1) occupational and environmental exposure assessment for studies of human health risks; 2) intervention research to prevent illness and injury and promote healthy environments in healthcare; 3) ?Sustainable Production,? methods to integrate occupational and environmental health and safety into the production and consumption of goods and services; and 4) assessment of the social policy aspects of work environment problems and solutions. She conducts work in these areas nationally and internationally.

 

Dr. Quinn is certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene (CIH) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. She is a co-founder of the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production (LCSP) (www.sustainableproduction.org) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and directs the Sustainable Hospitals Program (www.sustainablehospitals.org), initiated in 1996, to conduct research and provide technical expertise to members of the healthcare community to identify and implement more environmentally sound, healthy and safe materials, products, and work practices. She is a member of numerous national and international scientific committees, including the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Prevention through Design Committee and of the NIOSH National Occupational Research Agenda Council on Healthcare and the Social Assistance Sector.
