For the past 6+ years, Bette Simpson has served as Principal Development Manager for the National Education Association’s Health Information Network (NEA HIN), the non-profit health and safety arm of the NEA. Bette oversees and coordinates the individual, foundation, corporate, and governmental fund-raising activities of HIN, which is dependent for most of its budget on these external sources. Funds are raised to support specific programs, project activities, and overhead and administrative costs of NEA HIN.
Prior to joining HIN, Bette served as a Development Officer for the University of Texas at San Antonio. Previously, she filled a number of leadership fund-raising positions for universities, community colleges, and professional associations in Rhode Island, Vermont, Maryland, and North and South Carolina. A seasoned grant writer, manager and administrator, she has helped create many educational programs, scholarship opportunities, and special projects throughout her career.
Bette earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Rhode Island, and completed a women college administrator’s management program (HERS) at Wellesley College. She was a member of the 1996 Leadership Hilton Head class in South Carolina, has been an active member of many professional organizations, and has served on the Boards of several non-profit groups. She has had the honor of speaking and consulting on a number of occasions throughout the country.
